On the occasion of the Chinese New year, the prestigious collection of the Modern Chinese Art Foundation (MCAF) from Beijing will be exhibited for the first time in Luxembourg.

The exhibition will include a selection of works from the most noted contemporary Chinese artists, such as Ai Weiwei, Guo Wei, Liu Wei, Wang Xing Wei, Wei Dong, Zhang Hong Tu, Zhang Hai Er, Shao Yinong/Mu Chen, Zhen Hao, Zhao Bandi, Zhen Guogu, Gu Dexin, Ding Yi.

The collection of the Modern Chinese Art Foundation showcases Chinese art and its development during the last few decades. It currently comprises some 450 recent works of art. Works include oil and mixed media painting, sculpture, installation, video, and photography. The foundation aims to support the idea that visual arts and artefacts should be understood within the wider historical and cultural context in which they were created.

The Modern Chinese Art Foundation in Beijing was founded by Frank Uytterhaegen and Pascale Geulleaume as directors and Hans van Dijk as curator. Sharing an enthusiastic and multi-faceted interest in art, they soon realized they were encountering a rapidly changing China in the wake of early 80's reform. Throughout those years, they met a lot of artists, followed their careers and gradually started collecting their works.

Under the High Patronage of HE Ma Zhixue, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Chinese-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce CHINALUX, the Young Economic Chamber of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg JCI, the European Institute for Asian Studies EIAS and the Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster (CCRN).
