Arturas Anusauskas Trio

19.15 - 20.15

The Artūras Anusauskas Trio consists of Neda Malūnavičiūtė, Vytautas Labutis and Artūras Anusauskas, three highly distinguished Lithuanian jazz musicians.

Neda Malūnavičiūtė is the most prominent Lithuanian jazz singer and a master of the flute. Having collaborated with almost all of the Lithuanian jazz masters and international partners, she has perfected diverse jazz styles while also being closely related to classical music and even pop music. Vytautas Labutis is the frontman of bands, a multitalented creator, pedagogue, multiinstrumental improviser, playing all types of reeds, keyboards (often more than one instrument at a time), singing. Labutis is great both at free improvisations and composed structures, in chamber groups and large ensembles. One of the most distinguished Lithuanian jazz pianists, Artūras Anusauskas has been active as a soloist, composer and band leader. Sharing his sympathies between jazz and classical music, he is particularly nimble at combining the elements of both in his compositions. As a pianist, he has developed a remarkable sensitivity for the aesthetics of sound, as well as a technical finesse and an expertise in classical jazz piano styles. His playing characteristically involves polyphonic voice leading, governed by the influence of academic music.

The jazz trio will play both original compositions by Artūras Anusauskas and jazz standards.

Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra

20.30 - 21.45

The Idea behind the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra is to create a musical framework based on the finest musicians from the local jazz scene able to be a showcase of the Luxembourgish jazz scene and allowing international jazz stars to come to Luxembourg and find a professional big band to accompany them.

The band started back in 1993 when Ernie Hammes formed the Tribute to Jazz Big Band for the '93 edition of the Printemps Musical.
Today, many musicians of the original line-up are still on board, backed up now by young blood recruited among the uprising new jazz musicians.

Today, the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra can count on a strong lineup able to perform nearly every style of music you can ask of a modern big band. From old-school swing to hard bop, it covers the whole musical range of jazz music and is always seeking new challenges

Flat Earth Society

22.15 - 23.30

Flat Earth Society (FES) was founded in 1998, when no-nonsense artist, former architect, clarinetist, saxophonist, keyboard player, composer and producer Peter Vermeersch, wanted to explore new horizons after having convinced music lovers all over the word with Maximalist! and the cult legend band X-legged Sally. Vermeersch, who worked with international artists, assembled a pack of inspired and inimitable musicians, forming a big band which has nowadays become much more than just a big band. Peter Vermeersch included, the band now consists of a permanent group of 14 musicians and occasional guest musicians.

The music of FES, varying from strictly written sheet music to liberating improvisation, is 95% homemade. Streaks of music from other composers are used as inspiration, frequently arranged, adapted and integrated into FES compositions, adding a wide range of atmospheres and styles to the eclectic FES universe. FES, who dares to flirt with other disciplines such as theatre and film and owns the ability to seduce a number of different audiences, from more select jazz listeners to a wild young rock public, is at its best live on stage.
